About

Why Kami’s Beautiful Morning?

Four reasons:

  1. I am afraid of the dark.
  2. Some teenage girls wouldn’t get out of bed.
  3. I love Oklahoma.
  4. Sharing makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Let me explain a little more:

  • I really am afraid of the dark. Maybe I heard one too many ghost stories as a kid. Maybe my big brother jumped out of nowhere to scare me one too many times. Who knows. Yes, I sleep with a light on nearby. If my hubby is out-of-town probably every light in the house will be blazing at 3 a.m. (I could be having a big party, but that’s not very likely, 2% chance, maybe.) Being afraid of the dark I logically don’t like night-time and even more logically welcome the dawning of a new day with joy, gladness, relief and gratitude that I survived another dark night.
  • I love camping and have done a fair share of it over my lifetime. Often the camping has involved teenaged girls. (What can I say, I’m a volunteer and glutton for fun and unpredictability.) A few years back, on the last day of a five-day camping extravaganza with said teenage girls (who will remain nameless for now) a few of them were too tired to crawl out of their sleeping bags to help with the cleanup and packing up. More hands make light work and get us a hot shower sooner, so I tried a few tactics to get them out to help.  They weren’t moving. Finally, I tried singing. Loudly. With Energy. Verse after verse of obnoxiously cheerful songs. They finally got up just to shut me up. Ah, sweet success!
  • That particular campout was in Oklahoma, the Tulsa side. I loved living there. The people are amazing! Friendly, fun, welcoming. They make you feel like you’re part of the family right off. While there I saw an outdoor staging of the musical “Oklahoma!” complete with real horses riding across the stage. Hearing Curley sing “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'” was like having someone strum my heartstrings! That became my theme song, my mantra, my wakeup call. The next time someone needed rousting out of bed on a campout, they earned my own personal rendition of Curley’s morning reverie. I sang with energy, gusto, and not much talent, but with my whole soul and my entire lung capacity.
  • There you have it. Kami’s Beautiful Morning is my way of sharing the light and darks in my life, my point of view and the joy I see around me. I keep things honest and real. I’m told I write better than I sing. Let’s hope so!

  1. Your daughter picked up on your success and did likewise at one of our campouts of teenage girls. It was oh so melodious. She can sing/shout with the best of them. I smiled in my warm cozy sleeping bag, just before I crawled out.

  4. I also love ‘Oh what a beautiful morning’ But I’m a bit of a grump first thing in the morning. I have to have a nice strong coffee before I am feeling civilised.
